If true, this is great news !
REGINA – New Democrat Leader Jack Layton said Tuesday he is “confident” the majority of NDP MPs will save the long-gun registry.
“I am confident … we are going to have a successful vote on the 22nd,” said Layton at the NDP caucus retreat.
He told reporters most of the rural caucus will vote against the Conservative private member’s bill that would scrap the controversial registry.
Iinitally 12 NDP MPs voted for Conservative MP Candice Hoeppner’s bill but already four have publicly announced they have reversed themselves.
Layton didn’t go into details but made it clear that they now have enough votes in the rural caucus to save the registry.
