Four teens have been charged after brazenly stealing a gumball machine from the Tillsonburg Community Centre in the middle of the afternoon.
Bystanders observed three 15-year-old females allegedly taking turns carrying the machine outside the centre around 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Once outside the community centre, a male youth allegedly carried the heavy gumball machine over to a nearby tennis court and was observed smashing the piece of equipment.
While police were quickly called to the community centre, the teens had already fled the area.
Oxford OPP officers, however, were able to charge the youth after witnesses came forward and were able to provide images captured on their cell phones.
On Wednesday, the Oxford OPP charged the four teens, who are from Tillsonburg and Norfolk County, with theft under $5,000. The 16-year-old male youth was also charged with mischief under $5,000.
The four teens cannot be identifi ed under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
