The Maple Leafs have moved to shore up their depleted forward corps, dipping into the waiver pool Wednesday to pick up an old friend: Travis Green.
The 36-year-old centre played seven games with the Anaheim Ducks this season, scoring one goal and one assist. Last year with Boston, Green had 10 goals and 12 assists in 82 games. The 15-year NHL veteran who spent two seasons with the Leafs (2001-03), hadn’t played since Jan. 3 with Anaheim.
The Leafs have six forwards and one defenceman out of action due to injury, not including Ian White, who may be facing a layoff after suffering a shoulder injury Tuesday night against Carolina. Alexei Ponikarovsky has practiced with the Leafs this week and may be ready to return from a shoulder injury on Saturday against Vancouver.
